Orkids Speakers’ Bureau introduces a bimonthly series of talks on various aspects of family life. The topic of our inaugural talk is Happiness.

What makes for a family happy? What makes a family unhappy? How would you describe your own family? Is yours a happy or unhappy family? Chances are good your family is a little of each. Why is it that despite their best efforts some families struggle with unhappiness? There’s a famous quote from Leo Tolstoy in Anna Karenina about happy and unhappy families. “All happy families resemble one another, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” Although there are some definite similarities across happy families, I believe there are also similarities across those families that are unhappy. What are the qualities that happy families share? That unhappy families share? In this talk we will learn what some of these qualities are. We’ll also learn to identify these qualities in our own families and what we can do to lessen the causes of unhappiness and increase
happiness. Happy and unhappy families are more alike than not. Today we will discuss some of the reasons for this and learn how to work smarter rather than harder to achieve lasting happiness in our families.

The launch of o-PEN on
17th February, Friday 2017 from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm
at IICC (India Islamic Cultural Centre, Lodhi Road), New Delhi.

As all of us familiar with the disability sector know, parents are the single greatest resource for the wellbeing of the child. Most pioneers and advocates in the disability sector are parents or care givers of a child with disability. The commitment, the sustained passion and the motivation of the parent is incomparable with that of a professional. We at Orkids recognize this fundamental truth and are keen to initiate a parent drive to empower the parents of children with Specific Learning Disabilities.
We envisage o-PEN to over time become an organization offering parental support and guidance to many distressed parents across the country and even beyond the borders.
